Getting rid of fleas on dogs isn’t as hard as you might think it is. There are many easy steps that you can take to kill them and then prevent them from getting back on your pet. It’s much harder if the dog is an outside pet, but it’s still doable, it just takes more effort on your part.
There are many products on the market designed to kill fleas, but one of the best methods of killing them is to give them a bath with Dawn dish liquid. Dawn is great for killing the fleas instantly, and you will see a lot of dead ones in the bath water after you wash them. Be sure to soap them up thoroughly, twice and then rinse to make sure all the soap is off.
After bathing the dog, dry them thoroughly and then put on a flea repellent to keep them from coming back. Invest the money in one of the better products from the vet’s office that repels and kills fleas, ticks and worms. It’s worth the extra money spent to ensure your pet’s protection.
Getting rid of fleas on dogs by treating your home too
Once you have your pet taken care of, it’s important to also get rid of the fleas where they sleep. If that is outdoors, you can wash their bedding in detergent and hot water to kill the fleas. There are many sprays available that you can spray in their homes and beds that are not dangerous for them. Just be certain the can states it can be used in their beds safely.
If you have the dogs inside, you may have fleas in your home. Vacuum thoroughly the areas the dog is in inside your home and use sprays that are safe for indoor and bedding use in their sleeping areas and eating areas. (Don’t spray around open pet food)
Getting rid of fleas on dogs isn’t too difficult, but if you don’t do the extra steps for their bedding and your home, they will only get re-infested as soon as they go back to those areas. If your yard has a flea problem, this is a bit harder to take care of, but there are many remedies you can use to treat your yard including lime, and outdoor sprays or calling a professional exterminator experienced in helping with flea control.
It’s almost impossible to get rid of fleas completely, but you can control them and keep them to a minimum, ensuring the comfort of your pet and you as well.
